Shishapangma is one of the most beautiful mountains in Tibet, known by the Tibetans as “the big grassy field". It is the youngest among the world’s fourteen mountains above 8000m that lies in high Himalayan range. Only very few number of climbers have so far have scaled Mt. Shishapangma after the Chinese opened Tibet to the western summiteers in 1978 A.D. There are three distinct climbing routes on the Southwest face with several other logical possibilities on the West Ridge and East face. The following itinerary we proposed is the original route to the summit.
Our route picks up from Nyalam, 33km from the Nepal / Tibet border, up to the Chinese base camp at an altitude of about 5000-5400m. The trek to BC takes about three to five days via the Nyanang Phu Chu valley.
