The trek begins with a long drive to Trongsa Dzong, the ancestral home of royal family, enjoying picturesque sights during the drive. There are lot more to see in Trongsa town followed by a lunch and overnight at the lodge. Next day morning after breakfast we fix five hours hike for through villages, fields and forests and also crossing over suspension bridges and Chamkhar River. Here, you can see enough trout fish in the river. Then, we visit Thangbi Lhkhang a typical ethnic village .The ending point of this trek is Swan Land ,where Swan Temple exists, a blend of peace and beauty. After an overnight stay the trek comes to an end.
This three days trek is ideal for average walkers as the altitude does not go above 3,400 meters The trek crosses several villages and winds through the picturesque Bumthang countryside, giving an exceptional opportunity to be in contact with rural life. This trek is best done from October to May.
Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival Paro and drive to Thimphu Pick up from Paro International Airport (2280m). Depending on the arrival time of the Druk Air flight, you will either be served a meal in Paro or be driven straight to Thimphu, the capital city, which is about 53 kilometers away. The drive normally takes about an hour and a half. If Thimphu is reached early, you can go out in the town and mingle with the Bhutanese people. Dinner will be served in hotel.
Day 02: Thimphu Sightseeing After breakfast you will go sightseeing in Thimphu (2320m) includes visits to, National Library which was established in 1967 and has many ancient Dzongkha and Tibetan texts); Painting School or the National Institute for Zorig Chusum (the 13 traditional arts and crafts like painting, woodcarving, embroidery and statue making; National Memorial Chorten which was built in 1974 in memory of the third King of Bhutan; Semtokha Dzong which is about five kilometers south of Thimphu. Semtokha Dzong was built in 1629 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Today it houses the Institute for Language and Culture Studies.); Tashichhodzong the seat of the government of Bhutan. It houses the secretariat, the Throne Room, His Majesty’s secretariat, the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs and the Ministry of Finance. If the sightseeing falls on the weekend, you can visit Thimphu’s open vegetable market where farmers from the nearby regions gather to sell their produce.
Day 03: Drive Thimphu to Punakha (76 km)
After early breakfast proceed to Dochula pass (3050 m) which provides a superb view of the highest peaks of Bhutan, such as Gangkar, Puensum, table Mountain, Masakhang etc. Arrive Punakha and check-in at the hotel. Afternoon visit Punakha Dzong.
Day 04 : Drive Punakha to Wangdi-Trongsa, (146 km)
After breakfast we will drive to Wangdiphodrang, 17 km to visit Dzong which is perched on a spur at the confluence of the Sunkosh and Tangmachu rivers. The Dzong was built in 1638.. The position of the Dzong is remarkable as it completely covers the south and east-west. Wangdi district is famous for its bamboo work, slate and stone carving. Lunch in Gangtey. After lunch we will drive for 5hrs upwards to the Pele La Pass, crossing over the Black Mountains which divide western and central Bhutan.Pass through rich rhododendron and Yak settlements. Then we will cross the Nikarchu bridge to enter the Tongsa regions in Central Bhutan. A great white stupa built in Nepalese design from 18th century stands below the road. We will arrive at Trongsa and check-into the Lodge for dinner and overnight
Day 05: Drive Trongsa to Bumthang (68 km)
In the morning you will visit the outer premises of Tongsa Dzong. After lunch we will drive for 3 hours to Jakar (Bumthang) across the Yontola Pass at 3404 m. Dinner and overnight at lodge in Bumthang
Day 06: Bumthang - Nganglhakhang, 2800m (Trek begins) Today we follow the trekking trail along the Chamkhar Chhu (river). Lunch stop at Thangbi Lhakhang before entering ‘Swan Land’ (Ngang Yul) with its center ‘Swan Temple’ (Nganglhakhang). This part of the valley was at first inhabited only by swans that gave their name (ngang) to the place. Overnight in camp.
Day 07: Trek to Ugyenchholing (2810m) After breakfast we will climb gradually to Phephela Pass (alt. 3,353 m), the highest point on the trek route. The trail to the pass leads through one of the most beautiful forested areas of this region. This allows for many stops to enjoy nature’s beauty. Overnight in camp.
Day 08: Trek to Jakar/Bumthang (2750m) We will gradually descend the trail following the Tang Chhu, a trout filled river. Along the banks of this river is Tang Rinpoche Lhakhang. From Pangshing we will drive to Jakar (altitude 2,750 m). En route to Jakarta, we will visit Me- bar Tsho, the Burning Lake. Overnight at the Hotel in Bumthang.
Day09: Drive Bumthang to Gangtey,(193 km)
After breakfast we will drive to Gangtey, stopping en route for lunch at Trongsa. Arrive at Gangtey and check-in at the hotel lodge. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge
Day 08: Drive Gangtey to Paro, (180 km)
After breakfast we drive to Paro, stop en-route for lunch in Thimphu. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.
Day 09 : Paro sightseeing
After breakfast, drive to Drukgyel Dzong, a ruined fortress where Bhutanese warriors fought Tibetan invaders centuries ago. The snowy dome of sacred Chomolhari, “mountain of goddess” looms directly over the dzong. Along the way, see the 7th century Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the 108 temples built by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. After lunch visit Ta Dzong, originally built as watch tower, now houses National Museum of the Kingdom. It boasts antique thankhas, textile, weapons and armou, household objects and a rich assortment of natural and historic artifacts. Then walk down the train to visit Rinpung Dzong, meaning ‘fortress of the heap of jewels” which has a long and fascinating history. Along the wooden galleries lining the courtyard of the Rinpung Dzong are fine wall paintings.
Day 10 : Final departure
