This unique and little-traveled itinerary links the circuit around Manaslu with a traverse of the northern Annapurna Range while crossing the Thorong La Pass at 17,765 feet. We will pass through remote Buddhist hamlets as we work our way up to the foot of Manaslu's North Face. After time for exploration, we cross the Larkya La pass (16,847feet), join the traditional Annapurna Circuit Trail and then detour north into the upper Manang District to the ancient Tibetan villages of Nar and Phu. Entering this region is as if we stepped back in time. First occupied in the 10th Century, the stone citadels of Nar and Phu have changed little since and this area is said to have the highest concentration of Snow Leopard per square kilometer in Nepal. To the west lies the 'Great Barrier', rising high above Tilicho Lake. To the north of Manang Village, we follow the pilgrim route over the Thorong La Pass to the holy town of Muktinath and down to the airstrip village of Jomsom.
